Why list your alternative home with us?

Those who have studied the news have seen interest in homes that save you money skyrocketing in interest. People are beginning to demand that builders build with green features. A recent survey showed that 90% of Americans want solar power as a standard feature of their new home. Other features are wanted but unfortunately there is a huge gap in knowledge. There are many who would want an alternative house but this gap hasn't been filled. There are huge areas of the country where people remain ignorant of green homes even while talking about putting green into their homes. They speak of carbon footprint but to a person who has striven for decades to be alternative that is a person who traipses ashes from the fireplace and not someone who speaks against burning wood.

So in a way this website is a small attempt to bridge that knowledge gap. We see it everywhere we go. People who claim to be ecology minded yet are the first to stand up against building a home that is intended to be a true return to the earth.

So those who find us are the ones who often have knowledge already. They are people who are wanting more information and are interested in this type of home. And that is a home which is earth sheltered, rammed earth, straw baled, green roofed with a root cellar and off grid and able to survive a storm or weeks without food.

And when you are the only site of its kind with ten years of input then you who are a seller of your alternative home or sustainable acreage know you've reached the right place. And having reached the right place means you can count on us to be an important view source for the selling of alternative properties.

So send us your listing. Send us your pictures. Write us with your descriptions. And know that you are getting a very specific audience of those who dream of owning an alternative home and often are willing to move specifically to own such a home.

Initial Instructions

1. Write up a description of your property. Study how the real estate people do it and then write it in your own words.

A. Now think, what is it that makes this listing green and I mean as in

-geothermal heating?

-Off grid power

-earth sheltered or earth bermed, earthship or all underground, domed or just a nuclear silo, we have them listed before and we can do so again and now is the time to list as people are searching for answers to the best chance for survival.

-Benefits of the land and what is there and what type of fauna or plants and trees.

B. Water supply and source

2. Now that you have a description think of pictures and take pictures of the best parts of this story. Feel free to send 1 to 20 images(+) so that we can portray your home or acreage in the best light possible.

 -we accept pictures in gif or jpeg although jpeg is the most common.

compillation how to list

  -if you wish to send video know that we don’t really have the resources to do a good job with it as yet. Hopefully that will change in the future.

-send the information to us in stages so we get the document on the house or land separately from the images.

If there are a lot of images then send 4-5 at one time with descriptions if possible and then the rest of the pictures in consecutive emails.

3. Please list the price. I have found it to be a refreshing point to include.

4. I do not sell the house. Emphasis on former... I list it but you or your real estate agent take the calls and you sell the house. My only job is to be the middle man. So with this in mind make sure you leave some form of contact where they can write you.

5. I have found over the years that some people forget they have a listing with me, even if that sounds strange. With this in mind I have set a new policy that you and not me are responsible for writing me at least once every six months to remind me of the status of the listing or changes in price or E-mail address etc. If after one year there is no contact from you then I will remove, at my discretion, the listing, where it will be moved to the archive section for properties no longer available.

Contacting me is fairly easy. I have found that as time goes on their are spurts in properties listed. Thus I can be busier then normal and that is the price of running a website like Earth House.

5. My Name is Joel Akin-I live in Calgary, Canada and I have my BA in English and a minor in communications(from Lee University in Cleveland, TN) and I have been interested in Alternative homes since a child when I got an A in Science project  for putting together a massive binder on surviving in outer space and dreams of moving to the moon. I have a concept that one day we may live on the moon and maybe in not so far off a time.

6. My main E-mail address is Earthhouse@gmail.com and I use it because it is a good mail to receive large files with such as those people send with images.

7. How long does it take to actually get listed?-Depending on the option chosen (see options), we spend a day or two thinking about the material and then we build a page for you. This page is then resent to you for your approval or corrections as we do make the occasional mistake. Once it is approved and all corrections made we publish it online under Homes 4 Sale. Total time is usually 3-7 days.

8. What is the cost? I list the price options under saving money. I think that we are fair to all concerned especially if you have no money to work with. Take a look...
