Located in the Adirondack Mountains and nestled between lakes Champlain and Lake Placid, this secluded home is the brainchild of developers
Gregory Gibbons and Bruce Francisco. The retired Atlas-F Missile Silo has been transformed into a quiet, safe and secure luxury home in an area designed by the government to withstand a direct nuclear hit.
"With the escalating threat of world terrorism and an increasing need for security, this is the perfect solution for the right family or
corporation," said Mr. Gibbons. "The unassuming home blends beautifully with the surrounding area, hiding a secure bunker built at the height of the Cold War Era."
The above ground chalet features a number of luxurious amenities as well as one-of-a-kind novelties such as the 2,050-foot paved airstrip and a single engine airplane. Hidden below the chalet lies a fully
self-contained two-story luxury home that has been remodeled from the old Launch Control Center (LCC).
In the early 1960's, missile silos were built throughout the United
States as a nuclear deterrent. This facility once contained an Atlas-F missile and was manned by 40 Air Force personnel. The LCC housed both
the on-duty Airmen and the computer systems required to launch and track the Atlas-F missile. Through the LCC and three blast doors is the actual
silo, which is 14 stories deep and 50-feet wide. The silo, made up of iron floors and walkways, is approximately 20,000 square feet of usable space and stands ready for final renovation.
"The silo itself has unlimited possibilities," added Mr. Francisco. "It could be turned into a condominium or timeshare resort, a hardened
corporate complex, or simply a larger expansion of the home."
This is one of the only non-contaminated, finished silo homes available
on the market today. According to Messrs. Gibbons and Francisco, the present value of the $18 million construction cost in 1959 is well over $315 million today.
The minimum bid on eBay is now just over $550,000.
