We are approaching 300 pages of described links and related news articles. We are an information resource for everything related to earth sheltered or underground homes, also with an upcoming emphasis on homes
made from the earth as in Earthships, rammed earth homes, cob houses and straw. The future will reveal even more exciting elements provided for us by the earth itself. I have spent 8 years making this the most
informative site possible on the Earth House industry.
I wish I could say that I have exhausted the study of Earth Houses but I haven't. When I started this web site in 1998 there was little specific information for the armchair researcher. I had to develop Earth House
from the ground up and continue to be amazed at the reception from the public. From a starting point of 25 people a day we now are close to an average of 1,000 a day.
It is ironic that some would consider Earth Homes but a brief niche in the housing industry when there is so much to know and so little that is fully understood.
It is my belief that underground homes are one of the few means of habitation for the near future, i.e. until nature calms down or man controls nature. And considering mans success with the environment I would
suggest Earth Homes will continue playing vital roles in the coming future.
At present perhaps 25,000 plus North Americans chose to build earth homes though some estimates put it as high as 100,000. As our interest in the environment grows so grows the interest in earth sheltered
homes. In my opinion it is Britain that is pushing the boundaries of research in this area. They have discussed this home style in Parliament, they have the Hockerton Housing Project, BESA and much more. Here in
North America there are no set standards for mortgages, city planners, regulations and much more. I get questions on this often and it is frustrating as there are almost no studies anywhere to turn to. Even the
governments seem ignorant. To my knowledge the Governments in the rest of the world are far behind and continue to put out wooden homes which are susceptible to every disaster on the face of the earth.
Still, its not all hopeless. The benefits are slowly being realized by wise architects who are willing to look deeper into the subject. I can't state how angry it makes me to see people build wooden homes
immediately after a tornado or hurricane destroys theirs only to see that same area destroyed a few years later in another storm. People are destroyed for lack of knowledge.
Just think how much the insurance companies would save, how many fewer power stations we'd need to build, and homes that would last for generations.
We aim to provide you with enough information to create your perfect underground home or complex. 95% will not have the financial means to incorporate the majority of ideas. Still, those interested in
earth homes, will come away with something they can utilize in their own visions. Not just 'technology' but new ideas help decrease many fears and frustrations caused by the older earth homes which were prone to
dripping water, darkness, mold and so on.

1. It is the largest list of Earth Sheltered links anywhere in the world. Though I have not counted them I would suggest there are well over 2000 links on what I think is the best of the best. This is constantly
being updated and each year we make a massive overhaul of the site to weed out any links the dead link finder doesn't find.
2. Visitors: At last count we have had visitors from over 90 countries. Recently the Netherlands became the sixth most recent visitor. I get a chuckle out of that considering how much water they have. Some of
our more distinguished visitors include the White House, Dreamworks, more then 100 military bases, NASA, NASA JPL and the Goldstone array, the Pentagon(lots) the NSA, FBI, Lockheed-Martin, Esterline, Enron,
Worldcom, NYC Police Department, Los Alamos, Sandia Labs, governments from tons of countries, defense forces and contractors too numerous to mention, the EPA, Homeland Security, NOAA, various environmental agencies
and then thousands of common folks like myself. A welcome to all but the spammers and slammers.
